New"Toad" brake van from Graham Farish

Graham Farish today (12 September 2009) displayed samples at the N Gauge International Exhibition from new tooling for a Great Western Railway (later British Railways Western Region) 20Ton ‘Toad’ brake van.

So named because of its telegraphic code used by its communication system, the 20 Ton ‘Toad’ brake van was produced in various forms between 1918 and 1949. The build diagram’s represented by the new Farish model are as follows:

Diagram AA15 - 378 wagons built 1918 – 1927

Diagram AA18 -14 built 1926 – 1927

Diagram AA19 - 221 built 1927 – 1931

Diagram AA20 – 354 built 1934 – 1941

Diagram AA21 – 100 built 1939 – 1940

Diagram AA23 – 326 built 1942 - 1949

Four versions will be released next year as part of the expanding Blue Riband range and will be fitted with NEM coupling pockets. They are;

377-375 In GWR grey livery with GWR style buffers

377-376 In BR grey livery with GWR style buffers

377-377 In BR bauxite livery with self contained buffers

377-378 In BR bauxite livery (S & T Department) with self contained buffers

The totally new tooling which replaced the now withdrawn Poole designed models has options for producing the original non vacuum and later through vacuum versions where the control was mounted next to the left on the compartment door and was visible from the verandah.

The recommended retail price is £7.60 each
