Six US Navy Alaska Class large cruisers (CB) were planned before the Second World War. ALASKA CB-1 (kit ref PKTM06738) and GUAM CB-2 (PKTM06739) were commissioned in 1944. HAWAII CB-3 was launched after the war in late 1945 but by early 1947 was only 82% complete. Plans to convert HAWAII to a guided missile cruiser, or aircraft carrier, or large command ship were all shelved. The fitted turrets had already been removed when in 1959 the incomplete HAWAII was sold for scrap.
