MISSOURI was the third ship of the Iowa-class battleships in the United States Navy. It was built in 1944 and commissioned into service the same year. In January 1945, MISSOURI became flagship of the 3rd Fleet and participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima and Battle of Okinawa, and the Japan home islands attack operations from February to July 1945. MISSOURI was present for the historic moment of the end of World War II. At 09:02hrs on 2nd September 1945, on deck of MISSOURI in Tokyo Bay, representatives of Japan signed the unconditional surrender effectively ending World War II. MISSOURI was decommissioned in 1946 and placed in reserve. It was recommissioned in 1955 and saw action in the Korean War. MISSOURI was decommissioned again in 1992 and is now a museum ship in Pearl Harbor.
